Dear hostfamily,
First of all I want to thank you for choosing me and I appriciate for being able to become your new child! In this letter I try to introduce myself a little bit. I want to tell you something about me, my family, my hobbies and why I’m really satisfied to come to you!
Well, I was born on 30th june 1988 in Hilden. I am the first child of my mother Claudia Odenthal and my father Frank Odenthal. Four years later I got a little brother. His name is Tom. Everybody says that he looks exactly like me. He is funny, sometimes he could really goes on my nerves, but actually he is nice and loveful. My parents are very important to me, because they give me much security and orientation. They support me in everything. My mother is a quite nice woman. I think she is like an older sister to me, because she looks and lives like a young girl. My father does a lot of sports. He is good-hearted and peacefully.
We live in a pretty house with a garden in Haan. It’s a nice little town with about 30,000 inhabitants. It's located near well-known cities like düsseldorf, cologne and wuppertal. So we have the opportunity to go to the theater and opera, to the cinema or to soccer matches.
My hobbies are playing tennis, go swimming, meet friends, go shopping, go to soccer matches, go to parties, or just stay at home to read a book, to watch TV or to relax. I hope I could go on with playing tennis! I play tennis at the "HAT Tennis Club" in Hilden since I am six years old, but I think that I like it much more since one year. The years before I just play once a week. Many of my friends play in that club, too. Last month I was on a soccer match. The atmosphere in the arena was indescribable! I have never had so much fun. The spirit is really the best i know. I will go to another match in 2 weeks again.
Some friends say that I am a little bit crazy, because I am talking all the day. I think I have inherited this from my mother and my grandmother. Both are talking all the day, too. I am open-minded, adaptive and my ability to interact with people i don’t know yet is good. My friends say that I am a life-gladly girl. I love to communicate with friends or just with people with different attitudes to discuss. In my childhood I was a curious girl. I wanted to try everything. I used to do ballett, jazz-dance, riding, playing the piano. Later, I make more intense to consolidate my friendships.
Every summer my family and I go on holidays. I already have been in Norway, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Netherlands and Belgium. Every country has its own interesting way of life. I love to get to know a new country with his advantages and disadvantages. For example the climate in Norway and Italy. In Norway it is much more colder that in Italy. The conditions are quite different so the culture is dissimilar, too.
Two years ago I visited Berlin. This is the capital city of Germany. It is a metropolis in contrast to Haan. The Next year in the Easterholidays I will visit London, the capital of Great Britain. I wish to get to know every capital city in Europe. I really like different, versatile cities.
My schoollife is not very especial. I change from the elementary school “GGS Unterhaan”, where I spent my four first schoolyears, to “Städtisches Gymnasium Haan”. Now, it’s my 5th year at the Gymnasium. I started learning English in 5th grade, since 7th grade I have been learning french as a second foreign language. In 9th grade I started to take informatik, it's really interesting. In the same year i have done a “Sozialpraktikum”, too. That’s a week where you have not go to school. You can choose where you want to go in this week. We could go to the nursery school, to the home of the aged or to a workshop where handicapped people work. I choose a nursery school which lais 5 minutes walk away from my home, because my brother and I were there when we were young. I was very interesting to see what children do to have fun. They talk all the day and everbody said “Eva, I want to play with you!”. After this week, I was glad about my friends do not want to play with me the same games all the day! But all in all it was a great new experience.
I think about my future a lot. I don’t know what i precisely want to do, but I wish I could do something like journalist, reporter or anything else with speech, discussion, writing and the most important thing – communication. I also think that my year in Canada will assist my profession. You give me the ability to make communication experiences and learn a second language like my native language. I am so grateful that you let me have the chance!
We unfortunatly do not have many clubs at our school that we can take part in, but this year an italy exchange taking place. So I can go to the Italian club. There we get to know a little bit about the culture and the language. An italian girl visit my family and me for one week and i will visit her family, too. I am looking forward to this exchange, but it is not the same as my visit to you.
Since one year it’s my dream to come to Canada and I am very thankful that you make it possible that my dream comes true! I think Canada’s landscape is an admirable aera. The new and different culture interest me, too. A year abroad is the best possibility to get to know a different way of life with its heigth and depth. I think that I get more independent than before this year. I love to make new experiences and I imagine that I will get them! I will get more new perspectives for my future, too. This year will introduce me in another “world”. New family, new native language, new friends, new school, new culture... I hope to make a considerable step in my personal development, while I am staying in Canada. I also hope to learn much about the life there and of course to improve my english, to find new friends and to have a second family. I am happy that you give me the chance to get this experience. I am looking forward to my year abroad, but I also know that it’s also my turn how successful this year will be.
Okay, at least I want to thank you again! I hope you get a little imagine about me and my life.
Hope to see you soon!
Yours, Eva
